According to a report, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji and Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani discussed for hours on the sidelines of the second day of the 8th OPEC International Seminar on Joint Oil and Gas Cooperation , at a high level compared to the last decades. .
Joint investments and development of joint oil fields, export of technical and engineering services from Iran to Iraq and implementation of joint projects were among other topics discussed by Oji and Abdul Ghani.
Continued gas exports to Iraq
Iran has two gas contracts with Iraq. First, Baghdad, which was signed in 2013, and the second, Basra, in July 2015. A 6-year contract for the export of gas to Basra was signed in 2013 with the objective of sending a maximum of 35 million cubic meters of gas to this region per day.
According to this contract, Iran will send 20 million cubic meters of gas per day during the cold season and 35 million cubic meters of gas per day during the hot season.
The final contract for the export of Iranian gas to Baghdad power station was signed with the first gas pipeline (Ilam) in 2013, both of which are executive contracts, and this country is considered one of the gas customers of Iran.
The issue of termination of the gas export contract to Iraq has been repeatedly denied by officials of the Ministry of Petroleum in recent months, recently Mohammad Reza Jolai, the dispatching manager of the National Gas Company of Iran, during the trip of a group from the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq to Iran, about the increase in gas exports to this country.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity also announced in mid-October last year that his country had no gas debt with Iran, and that an Iraqi delegation was going to visit Iran. and consult with Iranian officials on increasing gas exports to that country. .
According to him, Iraq imports 20 million cubic meters of gas from Iran every day and this country needs more gas, therefore, negotiations, meetings and periodic trips at high levels are carried out with the party. Iran to increase gas imports.
Referring to the settlement of Iraq's gas debt to Iran, Majid Chegani, Deputy Minister of Oil and Gas Affairs, recently said: "The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has paid for all our gas demands and this debt is now zero, but sometimes there are problems in the transfer of money from TBI Bank of Iraq to Iran was born.
In 1401, about 17 billion cubic meters of gas were exported from Iran, on average, 20 million cubic meters of gas were exported to Iraq every day, and now about 35 million cubic meters are exported daily.
$1.6 billion of the pending Iranian demand from Iraq for the export of gas to Iraq, which had not been paid to Iran, was received in this government, and curiously, in the 13th government, gas money is received in current form every month for the export of gas to Iraq.
In 2021, we have seen 43% volume growth in gas exports to Iraq, and we have negotiations on the agenda for continued exports.
Agreement to extend Iranian gas export to Iraq for next 5 years
According to the agreement of the two parties, two gas contracts between the two countries will be extended for the next five years after going through expert procedures.

Currently, the cooperation between Iran and Iraq in the energy sector is being implemented despite the unilateral sanctions of the United States, so that the two countries have five major projects in the energy sector in course of implementation or negotiation.
According to the spokesman of the Iranian Union of Petroleum, Gas and Petrochemical Exporters, the Kirkuk oil exchange has started, a result of cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum, in accordance with this action, about 80 Crude oil trucks arrive in Iran. daily, as well as negotiations for the export of gas from Iran for Iraqi industries. It started that the party to the negotiations is the Iraqi Gas Company.
Cooperation negotiations in the field of liquefied gas (LPG) have also started.
The Iraqis are interested in using Iran's experience in the field of liquefied gas, both in the field of cars and large residential complexes.
The definite policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to expand cooperation with neighboring countries and the main strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum is to cooperate with other countries in the field of energy. Iran has good gas resources and reserves in the Persian Gulf, which can win with constructive and forward cooperation and with a formula: - Win to do good things.
