In 2010, South Africa also joined and, recently, with the addition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia, the number of members of this group has reached 10 countries, and other countries are also applying to join this group.
He added: In general, BRICS member countries are economically growing countries, and one of the goals of the formation of this group is interaction and strengthening within the framework of cooperation and agreements between them in various fields. So far, various areas have been on the agenda of this group, including banking, agriculture, transport, health, food security and energy.
Rahmati said that “every year, one of the member countries of the BRICS group is elected as the head of the group,” and said: the programs and meetings of this group are managed by the head of the group; In 2024, the presidency of the BRICS group is held by Russia, and as part of this project, the first meeting of the BRICS group energy committee took place in this country in March this year.

Rahmati said: During this meeting, country representatives presented the status of energy and development programs in their own countries, and further discussions and exchanges of views on energy and future plans of the BRICS activity in the field of energy has been carried out; One of the remarkable things is that India has taken significant steps in the area of clean and renewable energy development, and the UAE has also developed a formal plan regarding long-term energy planning until 2071 .
He added: “Undoubtedly, utilizing the experiences and interactions and aligning with the goals of the BRICS countries will bring many benefits to our beloved country Iran. For example, this group established a joint bank in 2015, which its members can use to finance projects in line with BRICS priorities, which can greatly help the development of various projects.

Therefore, it can be said that even though Iran is not part of the G20 countries, but thanks to its membership in the BRICS group, it will align to a certain extent with the overall energy programs at the global level; In particular, this year and next year, BRICS member states hold the presidency of the G20.
